Asheville Regional Airport is small and close to town. Here is how the main options compare, so you can plan before you land.

AVL sits in Fletcher, south of the city. Downtown is typically a short drive in normal traffic, but Interstate 26 and the Airport Road corridor can slow down at rush hour and during big events. Build a little cushion into any plan that has a hard deadline.
A private ride means a driver is waiting for your flight, helps with bags and takes you straight to your hotel, rental or restaurant. It is the least stressful choice for groups, families with luggage and anyone arriving late. Because you book ahead, the price and pickup plan are settled before you travel.
This is what we do. You can ask for the same driver again on your next trip, which is the part most travelers like best.
A rental car makes sense if you plan to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway or visit several towns on your own. Downtown parking is limited and often paid, and many hotels charge for it, so factor that in. If your trip is mostly downtown, a car can sit unused.
Availability at a small airport varies by time of day, and early or very late flights can be hard to cover. If you rely on on-demand service, have a backup plan for odd hours.
Some hotels and inns run their own shuttles. Ask before you book, and confirm the schedule, because many run on set times that may not match your flight.
